The Female Entrepreneurship in Berlin and India project supports the development and growth of women-led companies in both regions through networking, training, and delegation trips. The project brings together female startup founders and business leaders, support institutions (such as accelerators, incubators, and NGOs), and international startup ecosystem actors for delegation trips to India and Berlin and the Program Designers’ Lab (PDL).
Both the trip to Berlin and the PDL will take place during the Asia-Pacific Week in May 2019. With conferences, workshops, expert tours, and an extensive partner program, the APW creates a forum for information, dialogue and concrete collaborations that benefit the German and Asian partners alike. PDL features a training programme matched to the specific needs of the cohort. By exchanging experiences and tools for startup success, stakeholders from the Berlin and international Asian startup scenes can expand and strengthen their international cooperation.
A further goal of the project is to augment the availability of data and knowledge about the state of startup ecosystems in two Indian cities, Bengaluru and Delhi. In order to foster entrepreneurship, a thorough understanding of a city’s strengths and areas of opportunity is critical. The project will be based on enpact’s Startup Friendliness Index, with an additional focus on indicators that affect female entrepreneurs and the success of female-led ventures. The delegation trip and training will run along-side the quantitative analysis of the cities, as well as offer an important opportunity for qualitative analysis and consultations with affected stakeholders.
The Female Entrepreneurship in Berlin and India project for women founders has been established in 2018 by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the Bund-Länder-Pilotprogramm and is implemented by enpact e.V. as an integral part of the German-Asian startup platform and network Startup AsiaBerlin (SUAB). It is cooperating in India with the bilateral programme „Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs and Start-ups by Women”, commissioned by BMZ and implemented by GIZ, which aims to improve the conditions for women-owned companies in India.
